01The Charge

Every surface is monitored. Every advertisement is generated.

J. OKAFOR · 2026-02-03 · District redacted

We picked the wall for one reason: it faced a billboard that changed every four seconds. Twelve advertisements an hour, algorithmically chosen, none of them chosen by anyone who lived on that street.

The paste-up took six minutes. The billboard kept running underneath it, oblivious, still selling something to no one.

By morning the piece was gone — pulled down by a maintenance crew who filed it as vandalism. They were right. That was the point.
